How to organise your underwear drawer

January 123. Lockdown #3.0. We’re back to this again.

The nation has been told to ‘stay at home’ to protect the NHS. And if you’re one of the thousands of people who have been furloughed, unfortunately, you’ve got a lot of spare time on your hands.

Yep. It sucks. But rather than slouching on the couch all day, why not make the most of this time and use it to do something useful… like organise your underwear drawer? Sounds exciting, right? Maybe not. However, it will keep you occupied for a while – and to give you a helping hand, here we offer a few tips on how to sort the chaos of pants, boxers, and socks and keep things neat and tidy.

4 tips to organise your underwear

1. Out with the old, in with the new

If your underwear drawer is looking cluttered, you’ve probably just got too much of the stuff! No doubt, there’ll be at least a few items you’ve been ‘meaning to throw away’ for a while now.

So, first things first, have a clear out. These unnecessary pants and socks are taking up valuable space and they’ve got to go. That way, you can make way for some fresh new pairs from triatloandratx. We have a fantastic selection of underwear for both men and women, including boxer shorts, boxer briefs, briefs, thongs, and socks – in a variety of stylish patterns and colours.

These are available for a great price as part of our multi-buy deal. So there’s no excuse. You can replace all of those old holey items, without blowing your furlough payment in the process!

2. Sort by style

Example of drawer dividers that can be used to organise an underwear drawer

The easiest way to organise your underwear drawer is by style.

Start by laying all items out on the bed and separate them into piles – boxers, briefs, footsie socks, trainer socks, slipper socks etc. Day-to-day underwear should be placed at the front of the drawer, so that it’s easy to reach when getting ready in the morning. Whilst pants that have been dubbed for special occasions or performance underwear (e.g. no VPLs) can be grouped towards the back.

To help keep things in the right order, it’s usually worth investing in ‘drawer dividers’. These can be bought online for a reasonable price. But if you’re feeling the pinch at the moment (or just feeling particularly creative!), it’s possible to make your own using strips of thick cardboard or boxes.

 3. Think about the colour

Once you’ve separated underwear by style, the next step is to organise items by colour.

How you do this is completely up to you. Perhaps think about the shades you wear most and move these towards the front of the drawer? Or separate the dark and muted shades from the bright colours? You could even organise your socks and pants in the order of the rainbow if that’s what you wish. Just choose a system that works for you and try to stick to it as much as possible.

 4. Fold underwear the KonMariTM way

Folding underwear isn’t probably something you’ve ever considered before. But if you want to organise your underwear drawer properly, there are certain techniques that are worth a try.

For example, rolling socks up tightly can help to save a lot of space. A single fold down the middle of your pants can help to keep things tidy. Or if you want to be really organised, you could even give the KonMariTM method a go. Detailed information on this can be found in our previous blog ‘How to fold underwear’. But in a nutshell, it’s all about folding items into the shape of a rectangle or square. This allows them to be stood upright inside the drawer and all items can be seen at once.

Yes, it takes a little time to master the technique and fold each individual item. But in our opinion, it’s by far the best way to fold underwear and will ensure your drawer is super orderly.
