It’s a popular motto at the mo, and we get it. January is a fresh start, the perfect chance for a little self-improvement. But does that really mean you need to join the gym…?

Millions of people join the ‘gym rush’ at this time of year. But the reality is, 50% of those well-intentioned people quit within 6 months. And as for the rest? Most will buy all the gym gear, keep paying for the membership, but won’t ever actually go.

With the average gym costing £40 a month, that’s a lot of money going to waste!

Wearing loungewear in January

Be honest with yourself – would you stick with it? Get up at 6am on a cold, dark morning? Do a 10k run on the treadmill before your 9-5?

If you’re not sure, our advice is simple. Just don’t bother.

Use that disposable cash to buy something useful – like a TV subscription and our loungewear! January isn’t the month for gym-ing. It’s the month for battening down the hatches. So why not stay at home (lockdown-style), get super cosy and reconsider your resolutions for 2023?

The essential loungewear kit for January

Because this is no time for skin-tight lycra.

Gym wear item #1 – gym leggings

Loungewear alternative – Lounge pants

After a month of belly-bulging dinners, who can squeeze into those high-rise, figure-hugging gym leggings anyway? If you value your ability to breathe, treat yourself to some lounge pants instead.

Specifically, the super stretchy kind that are available in our loungewear collection.

Made from ultra-soft cotton jersey with a generous woven waistband (that gives), they have a relaxed fit – perfect for lazy days at home when comfort is key. Grab the leftover chocs, pop on your fave box set and slouch on the couch. You have our permission to go into full hibernation mode.

Lounge pants available at triatloandratx

Gym wear item #2 – a quick-dry zip top

Loungewear alternative – a cosy hoodie (or an ‘oodie’)

You know the type of top we’re talking about.

Body contoured, with a zipped funnel collar and made from a thin sweat-wicking fabric. Admittedly, they’re great for a HIIT workout. But in terms of warmth and cosiness and roominess? They don’t come anywhere close to the men’s and women’s hoodies in our loungewear range – especially those with a borg lining!

Made from a soft cotton blend, with plush sherpa-style fleece on the inside, they’re like a personal radiator disguised as clothes. Layer one over a t-shirt and sit yourself down in a cosy reading nook.

Or to really up the cushy stakes, why not invest in one of our oversized, wearable blankets (aka. an oodie)? Offering the same level of snugness as a onesie (whilst being a tad more practical), they’re the complete opposite of a quick-dry zip-up gym top…

Not recommend for use on a treadmill. Sweating highly likely.

Hoodies available in our men's and women's loungewear range

Gym wear item #3 – a pair of trainers

Loungewear alternative – slippers

December can be a tough month for your feet.

Lots of standing up at parties. Bravely (or stupidly) wearing heels to your Christmas doo – when it’s -10˚C and snowing! Dancing until the small hours of the morning on New Year’s Eve.

The last thing they want now is to be forced into brand new trainers. Trust us, what they really want (and 100% deserve) is a pair of dreamy, fluffy slippers from triatloandratx.

Mule-shaped, with either a fleece or faux suede outer and lined with either faux fur or sherpa fleece. Both our slippers for men and women are designed with ultimate warmth and comfort in mind – especially when they’re combined with thick, snuggly socks. Think walking-on-a-cloud vibes.

Whether you’re catching up on Love Island or doing admin at your stand-up desk, hop on your new walking pad (we know TikTok made you do it 😉) and clock up 10,000 steps in comfort.

No blister plasters required.

Cosy slippers from our loungewear collection

Buy loungewear (not a gym membership) this Jan

Don’t be one of the millions currently wasting money on a plastic card they’ll never use.

It’s perfectly acceptable to spend January getting cosy. So forget about improving your fitness or shedding those festive pounds (for now, at least). And make it your new year’s resolution to invest your money wisely – on some new cosy loungewear – and treat yourself to a little downtime.

Much more doable than early morning workouts.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/warm-clothes-to-heat-the-human-not-the-home 2022-12-22T14:20:36+00:00 2022-12-22T14:20:36+00:00 Warm clothes to heat the human (not the home) Sam Rourke Reluctant to turn up the thermostat?

We don’t blame you.

Energy bills at the mo are high enough to make your eyes water.

As we wade through winter and temperatures dip, Martin Lewis (aka The Money Saving Legend) has issued a simple piece of advice. To ‘heat the human, not the home’. It seems, the key to keeping warm – without shelling out a fortune – is to dress savvy.

Which may explain the sudden increase in demand for warm clothes

Warm clothes to heat the human (not the home)

This year, light-hearted ‘Christmas gifts’ – think onesies, socks, slippers – surged in popularity much earlier. Which suggested a completely different intention. People aren’t buying them to give as a present, but as a practical investment. To fight the chill in their homes!

Everyone is upping their warm loungewear game in an attempt to save money. And here at triatloandratx, we’re totally here for it.

In fact, warm loungewear is kind of our speciality. And we have everything you could possibly need to keep you and the rest of the fam toasty, without toasting your bank balance.

The official warm clothing shopping list

Minimal expenditure required.

1. Warm pyjamas

The perfect base layer for lazy days at home.

Forget about the trad terry cloth PJs and festive fleecy sets. Illogical as it sounds, it’s better to opt for relatively thin yet close-fitting pyjamas – as these lock in the heat and help to ‘wick away’ sweat.

Our advice?

Pick out a two-piece made from cotton jersey, with a long sleeved top and pant legs – like the ones we sell (obvs). As part of our nightwear collection, we have a range of men’s and women’s pyjamas that fit the bill perfectly and are a sound starting point for stay-at-home warmth.

2. A cosy, warm dressing gown

At triatloandratx, we love a warm dressing gown and we’re not ashamed to say it.

Until recently, they were viewed as a bit old fashioned. Perhaps a little fuddy-duddy? Defo reserved for Nan and Grandad. But this year, they’re hot in demand – and we can cater to the masses.

Dressing gowns with tie belts. Zip up dressing gowns with long-line silhouettes. Classic shawl necks. Cosy hooded designs. For men and women. All made from a super soft-touch fleece to provide exceptional warmth. If you’re looking for a top layer to keep the cold at bay, our collection certainly has you covered.

3. An oversized, wearable, hooded blanket

Hooded blankets have boomed this year – unsurprisingly.

They offer around the same level of snugness as a fluffy onesie, whilst being a tad more practical (no contorting your limbs and letting heat escape in the loo!) And they can be layered over pretty much anything you want. Lounge sets. Pyjamas. Even your WFH workwear (post Teams call).

Again, we’ve jumped on the bandwagon.

Our ‘snuggle’ oversized hooded blankets are a fantastic ‘oodie alternative’.

Boasting a soft fleece outer and sumptuous borg lining throughout, they’re designed with extreme low temps in mind – and feel like a big, snuggly, warm hug!

 4. A pair of slippers

If your feet are cold, you’re cold. It’s just the way of the world.

So if you want to stop the shivering, start from the bottom up and slip your tootsies into some warm slippers. And for extra cosy points, make sure they’re a fully enclosed style – like mules.

Slippers are another staple in our loungewear line-up here at triatloandratx.

We have styles for both men and women, all designed with three key principles in mind. Comfort, cosiness, and style. Made with a fleece or faux suede outer and lined with either faux fur or sherpa fleece, they’ll heat things up no probs – especially if paired with some snuggly socks.

5. A borg hoodie

If you looked up the definition of ‘warm clothes’ in the dictionary, you’d find ‘a borg hoodie’.

Borg is a faux sheepskin fabric, that not only feels super soft, but also demonstrates excellent heat generating and heat retaining properties – particularly if combined with rich cotton or teddy fleece.

We don’t call them Borg ‘heroes’ for no reason.

Invest in one of these bad boys from our online collection and it truly will become the hero of your at-home winter wardrobe. They take warmth to a whole new level – guaranteeing that, even when it’s sub-zero outside, you won’t be tempted to tweak the thermostat.

Warm loungewear

Save cash, stay cosy, shop at triatloandratx

Warm clothes are the metaphorical middle finger to your energy provider.

Why heat the house, when you can buy new warm loungewear instead?

Forget about dialling up the central heating. Invest in some affordable, cosy clothes from our online men’s and women’s range and keep the change for another rainy day.

For additional offers and promotions on our warm clothes for indoors, be sure to sign up to our newsletter. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We may not be as clued up on the cost of living crisis as Martin Lewis. But we do know our products like the back of our hands. We’re always happy to provide more info and can offer further helpful tips on how to dress to impress to stay warm at home this winter.

Love em’ or hate em’, in December, they’re as compulsory as mince pies, festive films and listening to Maria Carey on repeat. Non-optional attire for the yuletide period.

Stylish Christmas jumpers at triatloandratx

But let’s face it… they’re just a bit tacky tricky to style.

Chunky. Boldly patterned. Garishly bright. They certainly make it difficult to strike the right balance between seasonal and stylish. So to set you on the right track, we thought we’d share a few ideas.

Read on, don a festive knit from our collection, and wear it with your fashion cred intact.

3 ways to wear a Christmas jumper

Without looking like an extra from Love Actually.

1. Like a boss

For days in the office.

No need to ditch your festive spirit, just to look professional at work.

Whether it’s officially ‘Christmas Jumper Day’, or you’re the kinda’ gal that wears seasonal knits throughout December, it’s as simple as layering your Xmas jumper over a white collared shirt.

For this look, our advice is to keep it toned-down.

You don’t need a pullover with a giant flashing reindeer head to stick to the festive theme. Instead, opt for something classy – like a fair isle pattern or simple slogan. And depending on how executive you need to look, either add wide-leg trousers or flared jeans and a pair of heeled ankle boots.

Women's Christmas jumpers

2. Back to the 90s

For brunch with the girls.

Lots of forgotten 90s fashion trends have made a comeback in 2022.

We’ve been channelling a combo of J. Lo, Gwen Stefani and Drew Barrymore (circa 1995) pretty much all year – and that’s not about to stop just because Santa Claus is coming to town.

To nail a festive pre-millennial vibe, choose a women’s Christmas jumper in a bright colour, with a repetitive busy pattern. Again, we’re thinking fair isle in red or hot pink. Then tuck it into a high-waisted black leather skirt and finish the look with tights and a pair of chunky boots.

If skirts aren’t your MO, just switch it out for a pair of leather trousers.

Perfect for those bottomless festive bubbles with the girls or hitting up the Xmas market.

 3. The oversized dress

For festive parties and going out out.

Don’t think you could pull off a festive pullover at a party?

Wrong. All you have to do is size up.

Instead of buying your usual size, opt for an XXL – or even go for a style from our men’s Christmas jumper collection. The bigger and chunkier and cosier, the better. Then, to transform the look from slob to sass, simply team it with a pair of glittery stiletto sandals and a matching baguette bag.

Worried you’ll look like a sack of coal? We hear you.

If you’re not a fan of an oversized outfit, take a glam jumper – preferably with sequins and glitter – and layer it over a sequined pencil skirt to create a super easy (and super sparkly) party look.

Men's and women's Christmas jumpers

Pick your on-point Christmas pullover today

As impossible as it may seem – as you hold up that ‘unique’ novelty Christmas jumper with in-built flashing lights – there are ways to be merry, bright and still look nice this December. You’ve just got to get a bit creative…

Or if all else fails, why not embrace the cheesiness?

Throw on the loudest, most extravagant design you can find (there’s a few contenders in our collection…). Pull on a pair of leggings or joggers (the stretchiness will come in handy post turkey dinner). And ramp up the camp with bauble earrings and festive slippers.

Not particularly on trend, but a look that’ll defo get you into the festive spirit!

Browse our full online collection of stylish Christmas jumpers for men and women; see which one catches your eye. And if you have any questions – about how to style a Christmas jumper, the products in our store, what should be on your wish list this year etc. – you’re more than welcome to contact our little elves.

We’re by no means experts in fashion. But we do keep an eye on the latest trends, and we know our products as well as Santa knows his Christmas eve route around the world. Just send an email to [email protected] and we’ll respond as soon as we can with the deets.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/the-scary-truth-about-women-s-underwear 2022-10-20T08:00:00+01:00 2022-10-20T08:00:00+01:00 The scary truth about women’s underwear Sam Rourke Halloween is just around the corner – so let us share a fact that’ll give you the heebie-jeebies.

Those clean knickers that are fresh out of the laundry?

They’re not actually that clean.

Even after a rigorous and soapy 60-minute cycle, experts reckon that pants can harbour up to 10,000 living bacteria. And if that thought wasn’t disgusting enough, in a study led by a noted microbiologist – Charles Gerba – the average ‘clean’ pair was found to hold 0.1g of faecal matter.

Underwear ready for washing

Let that sink in for a second.

0.1g of poo… in your just washed underwear.

Gross, right?

Will it do you any harm?

Technically, no.

A few germs on your delicates won’t cause any health issues, per se. Bacteria has been present on our clothes for as long as we’ve been wearing them – and according to hygiene experts, there won’t usually be enough microbes in one pair of pants to cause any kind of infection.

The problem is, nowadays, people use low-temperature cycles as standard.

If you’re chucking your knickers in with your other laundry, the poo particles will contaminate everything else as well. Faecal matter on your tea towels and face flannels? It doesn’t matter how little may be present, that’s not a pleasant thought. 🤮

Plus, the germs will stick around, multiply and transfer onto all of your subsequent loads too. And if they build up too much, that could start to cause an issue…

Fresh knickers available at triatloandratx

Is there a way to de-germ your underwear?

Don’t like the thought of poo-riddled pants? We get that. The good news is, this seemingly scary issue can be avoided by following a few simple steps:

1. Wash at a higher temp

The standard 30˚ or 40˚ cycle just won’t cut it.

According to Dr Lisa Ackerley – aka The Hygiene Doctor – to give yourself the best chance of banishing the bacteria, you need to wash your underwear at an absolute minimum of 60˚C.

2. Use a laundry sanitiser

Hot washes are fine, in theory.

But what about your delicate lingerie? The pants that say wash at 30˚ on the label? What about the impact it’ll have on the environment? Or the huge effect it’ll have on your energy bills?

If you’re not keen on turning the dial up, a great alternative is to use a laundry sanitiser or a detergent that contains peroxide. That way, there’s no need to worry about the consequences of washing at a high temperature and 99.9% of bacteria and viruses will still be killed.

3. Clean the washing machine

If you want to be extra careful, it may be worth disinfecting your washing machine at least once a month. Run it on the hottest cycle possible (90˚C or above) with either bleach or detergent, and without any laundry in it. This won’t stop the bacteria entirely. But it will prevent the germs from collecting in the machine over time – and potentially reaching numbers that could make you sick.

Women's underwear available at triatloandratx

Time for some new underwear?

Ladies' underwear certainly doesn’t have an expiration date – and using the cleaning techniques above should help to keep the level of bacteria (and poo!) to a minimum.

But even so, it’s a good idea to ditch any pants you’ve been wearing for a year or more and replace them with fresh pairs. And not just to keep your underwear drawer as sanitary as possible.

After all, knickers get a lot of use.

You pull up at least 1-2 pairs every single day, so they’re bound to suffer more wear and tear than your average piece of clothing. And once they start to age, they won’t provide the comfort or fit they used to. If they begin to slip, the colour starts to fade or visible stains appear, it’s time to say goodbye.

Don’t just throw them in the bin, though.

Unsurprisingly, there isn’t a huge market for second-hand women’s underwear. But many textile recycling banks are located across the UK, that are willing to take laundered knickers – in pretty much any condition – and make sure they avoid the dreaded landfill.

Feeling sufficiently grossed out?

If the thought of dirty knickers will give you nightmares, it’s time to treat yourself to a few fresh pairs, and we have some fantastic replacements for you to choose from.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/how-to-dress-for-autumn 2022-09-26T14:48:54+01:00 2022-09-26T14:48:54+01:00 How to dress for autumn Sam Rourke A chill in the air. Darker nights. Crunchy leaves on the ground. The launch of Strictly. Yep – it’s officially autumn.

Autumn outfit available at triatloandratx

Not sure what to wear?

After one of the hottest summers in the UK’s history, navigating the colder autumn weather can be a little tricky. But it doesn’t require a complete head-to-toe reinvention of your wardrobe.

Just recondition your muscle memory (i.e. stop reaching for those floaty dresses and short-sleeved tees). Read our expert guide on how to bridge the gap between the seasons. And invest in a few staples to create the perfect autumn outfits.

4 tips for autumn styling

1. Learn to layer

Autumn is the teenager of the seasons – known for its mercury mood swings. From crisp mornings to muggy afternoons, the temperature blows hot and cold. And the key to getting your autumn looks just right is onion layering.

Start with the base, such as a t-shirt or vest top, then add multiple layers in a variety of textures.

Grandma dressing is having a bit of a moment right now, particularly the classic cardigan – which is perfect timing for heading into the colder months! So why not treat yourself to a big chunky knit? And simply pull it on/peel it off according to the current climate.

2. Invest in borg

Borg should be the official fabric of autumn styling

Similar to shearling (just minus the animal cruelty), this faux sheepskin-like material is super soft, super snuggly and seriously warm. It generates and retains heat, particularly when combined with a rich cotton or teddy fleece outer, and is the perfect companion for chillier days.

Whether you want to stay cosy on the morning commute or need to keep the heating bills down whilst WFH, be sure to invest in at least one borg lined hero this autumn.

Autumn outfits by triatloandratx

3. Embracer the power of a puffer

Not the full-blown midi-length puffer coat (just yet) – but its pared-back sister, the puffer gilet.

Also known as bodywarmers, puffer gilets are a huge trend for AW22. Lightweight and thin enough to be layered up, yet bubbled in design – they’re practical, versatile and create a cocoon of cosiness around the body. One of the easiest ways to insulate, without compromising on style.

Grab one from our collection. Pop it on over your favourite turtleneck or hoodie. And we guarantee, it’ll become the hardest working addition to your autumn wardrobe.

4. Thicken things up

Autumn dressing doesn’t have to be rocket science.

If you’ve got a particular style and you want to stick to it, stick to it. Wear the same things you’ve been wearing all summer, but just opt for thicker, more autumn-friendly fabrics.

Switch out those short-sleeved cotton shirts for a hefty fleece-lined alternative. Replace your lightweight sweatshirt for a heavy cable knit cardigan. Rather than that floaty floral maxi dress, don a figure-hugging midi jumper dress instead.

It’s simple really. Just thicken everything up and ditch the sandals for some waterproof boots.

“Gran – can I borrow your cardigan?”

There’s a question you never thought you’d be asking…

But it’s fair to say, grandma dressing is having a bit of a moment right now. In fact, the ‘coastal grandmother aesthetic’ has been coined as the ultimate vibe for 2022.

Inspired by the ladies in Nancy Meyer movies – think Erica Barry in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ – the #coastalgrandmother has amassed over 200 million views on TikTok so far. And in an unexpected turn of events, we guarantee you’ll be begging to raid Nanna’s wardrobe by September.

Coastal grandmother aesthetic

Wondering how you become a coastal granny at the ripe age of 25?

It’s all about elegant simplicity – chunky knits, crisp linens and bucket hats, in neutral tones of cream and beige. But there is a fine line between keeping it chic and looking like a frumpy librarian.

To set you on the right track, we turn our attention to the mainstay of the look (and the cosiest of all grandma trends!). The humble ladies’ cardigan. These are just a few style tips we’ve taken from our daily scroll on socials. Read on and live your best coastal grandmother life this autumn.

5 ways to style a women’s cardigan

No library card or grandchildren required.

1. Go long

No doubt fuelled by our love for loungewear, long cardigans have become a firm fave.

Finishing anywhere from the hip to the ankle, they’re a great way to nail the coastal nanna look, whilst also bringing a cosy bathrobe vibe to your daily outfits – just without the actual bathrobe.

Our advice? Go for a mixture of textures. Wear a fluffy cream longline cardi with slim-fit trousers, preferably in faux burgundy leather. Then tuck in a relaxed t-shirt and finish the look with slingback square-toe shoes – another huge trend for AW22, sure to get Grandma’s approval.

2. Large and in charge

An oversized women’s cardigan can be a great transitional piece for your autumn wardrobe.

Why? Because it’s roomy enough to layer over your tops and tees and hefty enough to hold its own as your outermost layer. Perfect for those crisp mornings, when a winter coat still feels a little OTT.

In line with the seaside grandma aesthetic, the best option is to go for a chunky cable knit in cream or stone – and team with a pair of bleached white jeans and a white tank top. But if you do fancy adding a little colour, try to keep it subtle with blush pink, ocean blue or seafoam green.

Cardigans available at triatloandratx

3. Shawl collar

Want to up the cosy ante without compromising granny chic?

Pick out a cardigan with a shawl collar.

For this look, the bigger and chunkier the better. In fact, it’s worth checking out the styles in our men’s cardigan collection. Stick to the theme and opt for a rib knit design in natural stone. Then layer it over a black roll neck top. Add a string of fake pearls. And to give this nanna-inspired look a modern vibe, finish it off with a leopard print midi skirt and chunky white trainers.

4. The cardiglam top

Who said a ladies’ cardigan can’t be sexy?

To dial up the seductive glam, whilst still paying homage to the coastal grandma look, wear a lightweight cardigan as a top. Button it up – but not all the way to the top. Show off what your nanna gave you girl 😉 And tuck it into a pair of cropped white paper-bag waist trousers.

Alternatively, size up so it’s a little baggy and style a fully buttoned-up cardi with mum jeans.

5. Cardi and blouse combo

This is the duo du jour on social media…

A soft fine knit women’s cardigan worn over a vintage-inspired blouse. Cute.

Again, our recommendation would be to go for a neutral tone – such as clean cream or blush pink. Layer it over a white blouse with a floral embroidered collar and pair it with light wash jeans.

Or, to really ramp up the granny glam, style the combo with an ankle-length pleated skirt. It’s a bold look – but one that a self-assured older lady can definitely pull off, leaving you 100% Insta-ready.

Woman wearing ladies' cardigan

Ready to invest in a cardigan or three?

We’ve got your back.

Our online collection features a wide range of women’s and men’s cardigans, including designs by triatloandratx, as well as guest brands Amara Reya and Plum Tree. So whether you live by the coast or not (and regardless of your age), why not channel your inner nanna and embrace this cosy look?

If you have any questions, you’re always welcome to hit us up.

We’re by no means experts in runway fashion. But we do keep an eye on the latest trends, and we know our products as well as Granny knows her favourite knitting pattern. Just send an email to [email protected] and we’ll respond with all the deets as soon as we possibly can.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/how-to-wear-a-polo-shirt-with-style 2022-07-22T15:06:36+01:00 2022-07-22T15:15:10+01:00 How to wear a polo shirt with style Sam Rourke Men's polo shirt available at triatloandratx

The men’s polo shirt.

It’s an absolute classic.

In fact, did you know, it dates back as far as the 1920s?

Having decided that traditional ‘tennis whites’ weren’t so trés bien after all, Rene Lacoste – a French grand slam champion of the time – designed and debuted a new alternative. A white jersey t-shirt, with a three-button placket and a starch collar. Sound familiar?

In 1933, the retired player stitched on the iconic ‘crocodile’ logo and began to sell his garment to the masses. And it wasn’t long before other tennis legends and designers followed suit.

 The original men's polo

Fast forward over a hundred years and the polo is still a staple in most men’s wardrobes. But to pull it off in a modern way, there are a few dos and don’ts that you need to follow.

Read on to learn the rules of ‘polo styling’ and how to wear this trad garment – without looking like you’ve just stepped out onto a mid-century centre court.

The dos and don’ts of polo shirts

DO

- Buy the right size

A polo shirt should be well-fitted, sitting close to your body (and accentuating your male muscular physique 😉) without being too skin tight. The bottom hem should also be about midway down your derriere – no higher than your hip and no more than a few inches below the waistline.

Trust us, the ‘tennis tail’ is not the way to go.

DON’T

- Tuck it in

Unless you’re a pro-golfer, it just doesn’t work. If you’re wearing a men’s polo under a jacket, you could tuck in the front section just a little, somewhere around the belt buckle. But nothing more.

- Pop the collar

It’ll make you look like a teenage frat boy. Enough said.

- Wear anything underneath it

A men’s polo is meant to be worn as a base layer. So if you get a sudden impulse to layer it over a t-shirt or (heavens forbid) another polo, resist the urge. It’s pointless and will only add unnecessary bulkiness.

5 fresh ways to wear the classic men’s polo

1. Keep things relaxed

Breathable, comfortable, stretchy.

Polo shirts play the ‘athleisure’ card well – with the polo + joggers combo being a match made in heaven for casual days. Our advice? Stick to the same colour top and bottom, perhaps navy or dark grey. Opt for joggers that are slimline and tapered. And finish the look with a pair of white trainers.

2. Suit things up

In the age of loungewear, it’s saddening to say, the poor old suit has taken a bit of a battering in the popularity stakes. But the polo shirt is the perfect addition to give it a present-day, casual vibe.

Start with a tailored two-piece in grey or powder blue. Then, for the polo, either opt for a tonal shade (which mimics the colour of the suit) or go for a completely contrasting hue – such as cream or blush pink. It’s on-point, sexy and – most importantly – comfy. What more could you ask for?

3. Stay pale

It’s summer and (almost) everyone has a little extra glow. So why not lighten up your ensemble?

Go for the OG polo – white, with a small minimalistic logo. But rather than instinctively grounding the look with dark trousers, style it with either stone or cream chinos or white jeans.

To complete the look, simply add brown boat shoes and (if required) a dose of fake tan.

4. Invest in pleats

If you fancy giving a subtle nod to the mid-century roots of the men’s polo, pair them with pleats.

Be careful with this one though. There’s a fine line between pulling off classic chic and twinning with Grandad. Make sure you choose pleated trousers that err on the slimmer side, perhaps in cream or navy blue. And go for a men’s polo shirt with some design interest, such as a texture or pattern.

In fact, the bigger and bolder the better. Think bright vertical or horizontal stripes and retina-searing colours.

5. Look for piping

Courtesy of the world’s youngest influencer – Prince George – piping (or tipping) is currently ‘a thing’.

The concept is simple. It’s a dyed stripe in a contrasting colour, around the collar and sleeve hems. But it’s incredibly on-trend and an easy way to wear an old-school men’s polo shirt with up-to-date style.

Just pair with shorts or jeans to create a smart off-duty look.

Did you know, they’ve been declared the shorts of the season? No joke.

Loungewear may have been the hero of the pandemic. But male underpants are, officially, its successor. Not only has this “borrowed from the boy” craze been trickling into our Insta and TikTok feed, it featured in several 2022 fashion shows – and is predicted to be a big trend for summer.

Why?

Men's boxers available at triatloandratx

It seems we’re all just a bit reluctant to let go of comfort. Even as we adjust to the hybrid life, elasticated waists, stretchy fabrics and laidback silhouettes are still very much a vibe. And let’s face it, clothing doesn’t get much comfier than a pair of cotton boxers.

Gender lines in fashion are also continuing to blur. Not only are boxer shorts ridiculously comfy, wearing them as regular shorts is on-point, fun and strangely freeing. You couldn’t get away with wearing any other intimates in public! And at triatloandratx, we’re here for it.

We have a fantastic collection of men’s underwear to choose from – and it’s certainly NOT reserved for men. So why not invest in a little two pack? Dare to be a bit different, try out this surprising summer trend and be sure to tag us in your selfies using #TokyoLaundryStyle.

3 ways to nail the men’s boxers trend

1. Peeking boxers

Last year, visible thongs (circa 2002) were a bit of a thing, popping up everywhere from the runway to high street stores. Fast forward to ‘22, and this controversial trend has been replaced by another…

Peeking boxers.

Designers and celebrities alike are styling low-hung bottoms with visible boxer waistbands. And if you’re not sure about stepping out in just your bf’s briefs, it’s a great way to embrace the ‘men’s boxers for women’ trend – without baring all or feeling overly self-conscious.

Simply style a pair of our men’s boxers under low-rise jeans. The brighter the boxers, the better. And finish the look with a cropped tank or bralette.

Boxer shorts at triatloandratx

2. WFH boxers

Getting too hot for your usual WFH uniform?

Why not swap out the joggers and leggings for a pair of men’s boxer shorts?

They’re just as comfy – yet breathable and seriously on-point. Perfect for both the days when you’re left to work in solitude and those when you’re Zooming with the rest of the team. Just style a pair of black boxers with an oversized t-shirt – loose or tucked in, your choice. And if the temperature drops (it is Blighty, after all), layer a super-soft hoodie over the top.

3. Beach boxers

The men’s boxers trend is an absolute winner for your hols.

You strip down on the beach anyway, so what better place to try out this stripped-back look?

If you’re heading for a chilled day poolside or hitting up the sand, opt for a pair of our button-up boxers in black. Slip them on over your bikini or swimsuit. Don your sliders. And finish the look with a loose cotton shirt – either one of your own, or one also stolen from his wardrobe.

Even if you don’t fancy going public with your pants, boxer shorts have a lot going for them – making them a great choice for men and women. They’re stylish, stretchy, breathable, affordable – and, most importantly, uber comfy. Wear them as a statement look for your summer outings, if you like...

Or just throw them on as a cute pair of PJ shorts or underpants?

No matter what, once you try them, we guarantee you’ll never look back.

When it comes to women’s underwear, the number of styles available to choose from can be a tad overwhelming. But not to worry! Here at triatloandratx, we can help you to pick your new favourite pair of pants.

Believe it or not, underwear can make or break an outfit. We’ve all had incidents where the lace of our briefs is noticeable through trousers and tight dresses.

But say goodbye to VPLs. We pinky promise you’ll feel comfortable right through ‘til the early hours with our range of women’s underwear.

Here are some tips you should follow when refreshing your stash.

Women's underwear available at triatloandratx

Style

If you’re a big granny pants wearer, we’re not here to try and change your mind. But a new set of briefs is always a nice treat, isn't it?

All of our women’s briefs and boxer briefs are stylish yet comfortable. Finished off with our signature branding, you’ll be proud to show these bad boys off.

If you’re a VPL hater or simply find them more comfortable, we also have a wide range of thongs. Whether you want to keep it simple with blush tones, or would like something a bit brighter, we’ve got the thong for you.

Fabric

Who wants uncomfy knickers? Not us!

Synthetic materials are more likely to trap sweat and moisture, causing nasty infections…gross.

To avoid this, stick with cotton-based underwear. We love cotton here at triatloandratx. It’s breathable, doesn’t trap moisture and is comfy as hell.

Colour

We’re not saying people are going to see your underwear (or are we?), but it’s always nice when you have a set of undies you like the look of.

If you like to mix things up, or simply can’t decide on a colour, we’re here to help. We have a selection of multipacks of thongs, briefs and hipster briefs on our site, with a mixture of colours for every day of the week.

You’ll be spoilt for choice!

Fit

Everyone deserves to feel fresh all day every day. Our advice? Get knickers that fit. It may sound like a simple one, but having a pair of pants that sit comfortably over your peach can make all the difference. Having ones that strangle us can lead to ingrown hairs and bacteria build-up, which no one wants.

Big gym-goer? Again, keeping your underwear on for too long after a sweaty session can increase the speed bacteria build up and cause infections that are tricky to get rid of.

To avoid any lasting damage, wear a pair that hugs you comfortably and jump in the shower as soon as you get in from the gym.

They’re so soft, so snuggly, so incredibly cosy. Quite frankly, it would be heart-breaking to ruin them with a boil wash – enough to make a grown adult cry. Which is why, as a proud supplier of this glorious type of garment, we thought we’d give you a few pointers.

The truth is, despite their super fluffy texture, borg lined hoodies are actually pretty easy to maintain. You just need to know the basics.

Read on to avoid any borg-related laundry traumas.

Borg hood available at triatloandratx

5 steps to wash borg lined hoodies like a pro

1. Check the label

It’s laundry rule no.1 – always read the label first.

Here at triatloandratx, our teddy borg hoodies are usually machine washable. But, depending on the specific style and combination of fabrics used, there may be special instructions on how to wash it. So before you whack it in the washer, it’s wise to take a quick look at the inside tag.

Better to be safe than sorry, and all that.

 2. Load up with borg

As a lover of borg sweatshirts, you’ll need three laundry baskets in your bedroom: one for whites, one for darks and one for borg lined heroes. Though it may seem like a hassle, separating your borg hoodies and washing these on their own is the best way to preserve the fabric.

Make sure the pockets are empty – laundered paper can leave the garment covered in lint (which is a headache to get off!). And once the machine is loaded up, add a gentle detergent.

Powder or liquid? It doesn’t really matter. But try to avoid products that contain bleach, chlorine and (ironically) fabric softeners, as these can ruin the super softness of the borg.

3. Be gentle

For best results, we recommend using your machine’s gentlest cycle – ideally, a ‘delicates’ setting  – and washing your borg lined hoodies at a cool temperature.

Not only could hot water potentially damage the fabric (causing excessive pilling), it’s really bad for the environment too. And contrary to popular belief, there’s absolutely no need to wash clothes at 40+˚C to kill germs and get rid of any stains or smells.

Thanks to technological advances in both washing machines and detergents, cold-water washing is now highly effective. Forget Gran’s old-school laundry tips. Just use the right amount of liquid or powder, be kind to the planet, and wash all clothing – borg lined or otherwise – at 30˚C or less.

4. Let nature do its thing

The tumble dryer is strictly off-limits.

Even a light heat cycle can cause a lot of damage. So the best option is to take your borg hoodies out of the washing machine, reshape them whilst damp and hang them on a clothesline or drying rack.

The exact amount of time they’ll take to air dry will depend on the temperature, humidity and the effectiveness of your washer’s spin cycle. But due to their thickness, on average, you’ll probably need to wait about 4-5 hours. Just keep checking back to see if they’re dry.

5. Fluff it up

Last but by no means least, to keep borg looking as good as new (i.e. super soft and fluffy), simply run your fingers through the fabric. This will loosen up the fibres and prevent any matting. Stay far away from the iron and just pop your hoodies on a coat hanger to let the creases fall out naturally.

Top tip: If you spot any pilling (and have a steady hand), use a disposable razor to gently shave upwards against the grain of the fabric. This will remove the bobbles, without harming the borg.

Borg may be a uniquely soft fabric. But you don’t have to be Dot Cotton to wash it successfully. Everyone can do it – laundry experts and amateurs alike. So why not add to your collection and make sure you have a full load of borg lined garments to wash each week?

After all, it’s an investment piece and lots of boxes need to be ticked. It needs to look good. It needs to be functional, warm, weatherproof, comfy, versatile… the list goes on.

Even the savviest of shoppers can struggle. Which is why, rather than just bagging whatever’s on sale or seems ‘ok’, it’s worth taking a little time to consider your purchase. Here we’ve rounded up a few tips to help you pick the perfect men’s or women’s coat. So why not take a look?

Master the art of coat shopping. Choose wisely. And you can thank us later.

How to choose the perfect coat

1. Read the small print

So many coats are made from cheap acrylic these days. Shockingly, even high-end brands (with a high-end price point!) can be guilty of making outerwear from low-quality materials. And coats that are advertised as being ‘wool’ or ‘polyester’, may only contain a tiny percentage.

That’s why, before you blow this month’s wages, perhaps check the small print…

What’s that £100 puffer jacket actually made from? Will it keep you warm and dry? How long is it likely to last? And is it worth the eye-watering number on the price tag?

2. Always prioritise warmth

Fact. No fashion trend on earth is worth shivering for. If it’s a toss-up between functional or stylish, a functional winter coat should win hands down. Because let’s face it, as hot as that checkerboard faux fur coat is right now, it’s unlikely to still be in fashion in 6 months’ time!

When shopping for coats, it pays to be practical.

But technically, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice one for the other. Coats that are both on-trend and cosy do exist. It’s just a case of finding them. And trust us, you really don’t need to look far…Just click here for men’s and here for women’s.

3. Make sure it fits

The perfect coat will fit perfectly – tailored enough to be flattering, yet with enough room for layers.

Ideally, when your arms are by your side, the cuff of each sleeve should hit right at the crease between your thumb and pointer finger. Belt loops should fall on your natural waistline. And the shoulder seam should follow the edge of your shoulder bone.

Of course, when buying a coat online, getting the right fit can be tricky. Which is why, here at triatloandratx, we offer hassle-free returns for all of our men’s and women’s coats. That way, you can order a couple of sizes, choose the best fit, and send the other back for a full refund. Simple.

Men's and women's coats

4. Choose comfort

This one may be obvious. But nevertheless, your coat is the one piece of clothing that you’ll throw on every morning – for pretty much the whole of autumn and winter (and potentially even spring, here in the UK!). So comfort is 100% crucial.

Of course, getting the right fit plays a big role in this – but so does the material.

Try to avoid itchy synthetics and overly stiff fabrics. And keep in mind, heavy coats aren’t always necessarily warmer. In most cases, you’re better opting for a quilted jacket; a style that’s super lightweight yet packs a real punch in terms of its warmth and cosiness.

5. Pick something versatile

Aside from being warm and comfy, a coat also has to be versatile.

That maxi trench coat may look fab with your jeans and combat boots. But does it really go with your floaty day dresses? And can you really pull it off with those joggers and trainers?

Nope – we didn’t think so. When choosing a coat, you need to find something that covers all the bases. Something that can be teamed with a wide range of outfits and just as easily be dressed up as it can be dressed down.

Our advice? Go for something flexible like a padded puffer or parka. And to ensure a basic level of versatility, pick a staple colour such as black, grey, navy, olive green or stone.

6. Know your body

Lastly, it’s important to bear in mind what suits you and your body.

Keeping up with the latest trends is great. But no matter how fashionable that calf-length puffer currently is, if you’re 5’1” – trust us – you’re at risk of looking like a walking duvet rather than an actual human being! Instead, a hip-length style may be more appropriate.

Knowing what suits your height and shape can help to narrow down the thousands of men’s and women’s coats available online. So give it a little thought and find the perfect match for you, personally.

a. David Gandy

b. Magic Mike

c. A fan of the Donald Duck look

Your underwear isn’t usually on display to the public. But if you think that means you can cheap out on a budget multipack from the supermarket, you sir, are mistaken.

The foundation of every good outfit is a damn good pair of men’s boxers.

Not only will they improve the way your clothes hang, they’ll make you feel better too – staying firmly in place from AM to PM and providing the perfect level of support for your prized possessions. Which is why, when you’re restocking your underwear drawer, it’s important to shop wisely.

And that means, shopping at triatloandratx

Man wearing the best men's underwear available online

Our men’s underwear is some of the best men’s underwear currently available to buy online.

Yes, yes, you may think we’re biased. But it’s honestly the truth. And here are just a few of the reasons why you should ditch those eight-pack tighty whiteys in favour of our two-pack quality boxers.

Comfort

There are so many different types of men’s underwear to choose from.

Boxers. Briefs. Boxer Briefs. Trunks. Thongs. Jockstraps. Long Johns.

Ultimately, the best option for you comes down to personal preference. But in terms of comfort? You really can’t beat a pair of men’s boxer shorts – such as those available at triatloandratx.

Shaped like traditional boxers with an elasticated waistband, they’re designed to offer freedom of movement and maximum all-day comfort. The leg section is tailored very slightly, to hug the thighs and add that much-needed support. And they’re suitable for pretty much any body type or build.

Whether you’re a tall and slender guy or short and muscular, our men’s boxers will flatter your physique whilst being uber-comfortable. And as long as you choose the right size, they can be worn under any jeans or trousers – without the risk of bunching or crunching.

Fabric

Men’s underwear can be made from many different fabrics. And if you’re shopping online, that only adds to the confusion. How can you tell what a pair of briefs are going to feel like, just from a photo? You can’t – but there is a way to narrow down your search.

Quite simply, avoid nylon like the plague. As a synthetic material, it traps heat and moisture and creates the perfect breeding ground for nasty bacteria and infections.

Instead, you’re better opting for cotton. A high-quality 95% cotton-rich blend, to be precise (i.e. what our men’s underwear range is made from). Not only does it offer unbeatable breathability and help to wick away moisture, it’s soft to touch and stretchy – and will help you to stay fresh and comfy, no matter what you get up to during the day.

Style

Your boxers may not be seen (by many…), but to feel your best, it’s important to invest in some that look great. Forget about the superhero designs that raise an eyebrow in the locker room. Instead, you want to channel Channing Tatum and opt for styles with a little more class (and sex appeal!).

Here at triatloandratx, our men’s underwear is just as stylish as it is comfy.

You can choose from colour-block and striped designs in a vast array of colours. Either stick to the classics of black, navy or grey. Or express your personality with some bright eye-catching shades. They’re all finished with signature branding to the waistline. And trust us… none of them would look out of place on a steamy men’s underwear shoot!

The best men’s underwear is comfortable, supportive, breathable, and stylish. And it’s fair to say, our collection certainly ticks all of those boxes. Plus, it’s affordable too!

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/dopamine-dressing-the-bright-fashion-trend-of-2022 2022-01-27T08:00:00+00:00 2022-01-27T08:00:00+00:00 Dopamine dressing: the bright fashion trend of 2022 Sam Rourke Want to beat the January blues?

Let us introduce you to dopamine dressing.

It’s one of the latest fashion trends to emerge from the pandemic and one that’s predicted to boom in 2022. After the last couple of years, we all need a bit of cheering up – and dopamine dressing has the so-called power to boost your happy hormones and seriously improve your mood.

And the good news? To nail it, you just have to wear colourful clothes. Simple as that.

Bright clothes available at triatloandratx

Psychology researchers have known for a long time that vibrant outfits can improve how the wearer feels. We won’t get into the nitty-gritty neuroscience behind it here. But essentially, when we wear something bright, dopamine (aka the ‘feel good’ hormone’) is released in our brains and we experience an emotional lift.

The best colour to wear is specific to you personally. But generally speaking, it seems that putting on ‘happy’ colourful clothes each morning can actually make us feel happier.

Sounds good to us! So why not give it a go? You’ve got nothing to lose by giving it a try. Treat yourself to a few new colourful items for your wardrobe, get that much-needed hit of dopamine, and see if you can dress your way to a little bit of happiness this January.

How to wear colourful clothes

For many people, the idea of wearing bold colours can be intimidating – particularly after two years of WFH life and grey loungewear. But with the hope of the new year, one free (fingers crossed!) from COVID-19 restrictions, now is the perfect time to experiment. And to give you a helping hand, here we’ve rounded up a few tips on how to embrace the brightness.

Colourful clothes for 'dopamine dressing' trend

1. Ease yourself in gently

If you’re nervous about ditching your beige uniform – or rainbow coloured separates just aren’t your thing – you can still make this trend work for you. Simply dress in your favourite neutral colours, then choose one vibrant accessory to complement the look.

It could be a pair of multi-hued shoes. An oxblood red hat. A pink scarf. Or a bright piece of jewellery. Something small, that will elevate your plain outfit – and give you that little boost.

2. Opt for bright basics

Choosing a few wardrobe ‘basics’ in statement hues will allow you to dabble in new colours, whilst on a budget. Plus, they’re a great way to lean into the trend, without feeling like a fruit pastille lolly!

Our advice? Simply pair a brightly coloured t-shirt with a pair of jeans. Jeans are the foundation of most people’s wardrobe – the thing we feel most comfortable in. They’ll balance out the vibrant shades in your short-sleeved tee and give the look an effortless off-duty vibe.

Colourful clothes available at triatloandratx

3. Add an eye-catching coat

Wrapping up in a bright coat is one of the best ways to tap into the trend. We’re talking letterbox red parkas. Bright orange puffer jackets. Hot pink rain macs and sunflower yellow boucle coats. No need to change your neutral-coloured outfit and refresh your entire wardrobe. Just add an extra layer over your usual ensemble and let your outerwear do the hard work for you.

4. Layer shades

If you’re worried about picking the wrong colour combos, the solution is simple. Just stick to one. Layering bright clothes – in varying hues of the same colour – is a clever way to follow the trend, without feeling like you’ve gone too far.

Perhaps pair a khaki parka with an olive green t-shirt? Or match your knitwear with your outerwear? It’s subtle but oh-so-stylish and will still give you that important dopamine fix.

5. Pair opposite colours

Feeling brave?

For those who wish to completely embrace the trend, the key is to remember, opposites attract. To find the perfect contrasting colours, we recommend using a colour wheel and picking shades that are directly facing each other – such as red and green, blue and orange, purple and yellow.

Granted, it’s a daring look. But dressing head-to-toe in vibrant colours is what this trend is all about. And if a multi-coloured outfit will make you smile, it’s time to add it to your day-to-day rotation.

For 99.9% of people, it means one thing and one thing only – time to hit the gym! Whether you’re looking to shed a few pounds or want to improve your health and fitness, January is the perfect month to renew your membership and get into shape.

But first – you need to shop for gym clothes (naturally).

Did you know, what you wear to the gym can actually affect the quality of your workout?

It’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some new activewear. And to help you make an informed choice about your purchase and maximise the effectiveness of your first session, here we answer the burning question: which are better – jogger shorts or joggers?

3 factors to consider when buying joggers or short

1. Calories

Got a goal weight in mind? Choosing to wear joggers may just get you there a little faster.

Typically made from thick cotton fabric, jogging bottoms are much warmer than jogger shorts. And when you’re working out, that means you’ll get a lot hotter and sweatier. The additional heat will obviously make the session harder – but it will also burn extra calories. What’s more, extreme sweating can help you to lose some of that pesky ‘water weight’ too.

Of course, you have to be realistic. You’re not going to lose a stone in one session just because you wore a pair of sweatpants! The effect is only very small. But when you’re working towards a target weight or size, every little helps, right?

2. Warmth

It’s goes without saying, jogging bottoms are much warmer than shorts. And on a cold January morning, they may just be the motivation you need, to leave your cosy bed and head to the gym. By trapping heat close to the body, they also help to warm up the muscles, therefore ensuring your workout is safer and more effective overall.

However, it’s important to keep in mind – exercise is a hot and sweaty business.

Overheating could potentially ruin your workout, leading to dehydration and forcing you to quit prematurely. So before deciding what to wear, think about the activities you’ll be doing. If you’ll be training at a moderate pace, joggers are likely to be fine. But if you’re planning an intense session – that significantly increases your heart rate – you may be better opting for shorts instead.

3. Movement

Gym clothes should never get in the way of your workout. They need to be loose and comfy enough to give you freedom of movement – allowing you to bend, squat, lunge, stretch and more.

Jogger shorts offer a much better range of motion than joggers, particularly if they fall above the knee. And as such, they’re a great option for hitting the treadmill or your weekly spin class. But if you plan to use machines such as the leg press, be aware of what others can see.

It’s very easy for shorts to ride up, giving the guy on the cross trainer more than an eye full... So depending on the activity and your choice of gym equipment, you may feel more comfortable (and less self-conscious!) in a full-length pair of joggers.

Update your gym wear wardrobe wisely

In answer to the question ‘Are joggers or jogger shorts better for the gym?’ – truthfully, it varies.

Both can be a great option. Ultimately, the best gym wear for you will depend on the activities you wish to do, and which style helps you to exercise comfortably and focus on the workout. But whatever you decide – whether you think joggers or jogger shorts are best for your return to the gym – we’ve got it covered, here at triatloandratx.

As we head into 2022, our store has been re-stocked with a fantastic selection of men’s jogger shorts and joggers, as well as jogging bottoms and sweat shorts for women. All of which are available for a great price (good news for your post-Christmas bank balance!) and perfect for the gym.

So why not take a look? Stock up and maximise the effectiveness of your new year workouts with some carefully chosen gym clothes. And remember, you’re always welcome to get in touch.

Perhaps you have a question about a particular product? Or want to know more about the pros and cons of joggers and jogger shorts? Whatever it is, feel free to drop us a line. Send a message to [email protected] and a member of our team will get back to you – as soon as they get back from their morning gym session!

Christmas Jumper Day!

24 hours to don your favourite festive knitwear and support a fantastic cause.

The annual event is hosted by ‘Save the Children’, to raise awareness and fundraise for children in need around the world. This year, it’s set to take place on Friday 10th December. And after 2020’s celebrations were rudely cancelled by COVID-19, for 123, we reckon that everyone should get involved in the joyous occasion.

Couple wearing jumpers for Christmas Jumper Day

After all, it’s the season of goodwill and giving.

Why not spread a little cheer this Christmas and read on to learn how you – and your nearest and dearest – can take part?

How to celebrate Christmas Jumper Day 123

Step 1: Find the perfect novelty pullover

You don’t necessarily need to buy a new jumper to participate. You could dig out the classic Fair Isle knitted by Gran the other year? Or jazz up a basic jersey with some tinsel and baubles? As long as you get involved and help to raise cash, it doesn’t really matter.

Having said that… it’s worth pointing out, here at triatloandratx, we stock an amazing range of Christmas jumpers for men, women and kids. From pullovers that are chic and tasteful to those which are bold, bright and deliberately tasteless, we have the perfect design for everyone. They’re all ready for immediate dispatch and available for a low price, too.

It can’t hurt to take a look, can it? Choose your favourite style from our collection, and we guarantee, this year’s prize for the ‘Best Christmas Jumper’ is defo in the bag!

Step 2: Sign up to the fun and frivolity

To officially take part in Christmas Jumper Day, you’ll need to sign up.

A quick and easy registration form can be found on the ‘Save the Children’ website.

It only takes a few minutes to complete. Just pop in your contact details and say whether you’d like to participate with friends, family, or colleagues, or as a school or nursery. The charity will then send you everything you need to get ready for the big day – including a free online fundraising pack and instructions on how to create a JustGiving page.

So far this year, over 14,000 schools, youth groups, workplaces and homes have all signed up – with over 1.8 million people set to wear their jazziest Christmas jumper on the 10th.

Step 3: Host your own Christmas Jumper Day

The last step is to have some good old-fashioned festive fun!

When the magical day rolls around, just pull on your seasonal sweater and donate £2 each to ‘Save the Children’. If you’d like to boost the total, why not organise a few fundraising activities and events for throughout the day – such as a bake sale, silly sponsorships, jumper competitions, quizzes, and Christmas-themed challenges.

Most people will be joining in on December 10th – but if that date doesn’t work for you, just pick another. It also doesn’t matter if you raise £10, £100, or £1000s. The important thing is to get into the spirit, don some outrageous Christmas knitwear, and do your bit to help – however big or small.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/what-are-the-warmest-winter-coats 123-10-29T08:00:00+01:00 123-10-29T08:00:00+01:00 What are the warmest winter coats? Sam Rourke If you invest in just one new item of clothing this autumn, make it a warm coat.

For a start, outerwear is a huge catwalk trend this season. It can be thrown on with just about anything – a suit, a dress, jeans, joggers – pulling your look together and becoming your everyday essential. And (most importantly!) it’ll keep you feeling toasty on the coldest of days.

Your lightweight jacket may have served you well so far this year. But as temperatures start to fall and the nights draw in, there’s no substitute for a heavy-duty layer. Something thick and cosy and built to resist the harsh UK elements. And here at triatloandratx, we have just the thing.

Warmest winter coats available at triatloandratx

Winter coats are one of our specialities. We have a fantastic edit for both men and women and, if warmth is high on your priority list, here’s our advice on the best styles.

3 warm winter coats to see you through till spring

1. Puffer coats

It was the official coat of the winter lockdown – and this year, it’s back with a vengeance.

The puffer is probably the warmest winter coat that money can buy. After all, it’s the closest you’ll get to stepping outside in your duvet. The iconic bubbled design creates a cocoon of cosiness around the body. And styles have a long list of features that are specifically designed to trap heat inside, including everything from knitted ‘storm’ cuffs to a fur-lined hood.

This season, bright colours are the key to being both cosy and chic. Think ochre yellow, burnt orange, cobalt blue, firebrick red. Just cinch in the chunkiness using the drawstring waist and you can 100% get away with wearing this winter coat with every outfit – casual or formal.

2. Parkas

Outerwear trends may come and go, but the parka is a style that sticks around – and rightly so.

It’s one of the warmest coats available for both men and women. Practicality is at the heart of its design. Offering thigh-length coverage, most parkas are made from a padded water-repellent material, with a snuggly fleece or quilted lining. And some even benefit from a hood – with soft faux fur detailing – and storm cuffs for an extra level of cosiness.

When it comes to this classic winter coat, stick to a classic colourway. Khaki green is our absolute fave. And to complete the urban look, pair it with jeans and combat boots.

3. Borg lined coats

Borg is a sheepskin-like fabric that takes warmth to a completely new level.

Not only does it feel super comfy against the skin, it demonstrates amazing heat generating and heat retaining properties. If your winter coat is lined with this bad boy, it basically doesn’t matter about the shape, style, or fit – you’re definitely on to a winner.

Borg teddy coats are our no.1 choice for ladies. Just as the name suggests, they’re like a giant hug from your favourite childhood toy – soft, snuggly, and seriously cosy. For men, you can’t beat a borg-lined checked overshirt. Just layer it over your go-to knitwear and it becomes the perfect winter coat for crisp, clear mornings.

Which winter coat will you choose?

A puffer, parka, or borg-lined hero?

Here at triatloandratx, our outerwear department is packed full of the warmest winter coats for men and women. We have a style to suit all tastes and comfort levels – and, whichever option you choose, it’s guaranteed to keep you cosy throughout the bitter autumn/winter months.

They may be high performance, but our coats and jackets certainly don’t come with a high price tag. They’re all affordably priced and standard delivery is completely free if you spend over £30.

So why not take a look today?

Invest in warmth and style this winter and we promise you won’t regret it. And remember, you’re always welcome to get in touch. Perhaps you have a question about a particular product? Or want to know more about the warmest types of coats currently available? Whatever it is, feel free to hit us up. https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/fashion-faux-pas-5-frightful-mistakes-that-you-need-to-avoid 123-10-20T12:51:03+01:00 123-10-20T12:51:04+01:00 Fashion faux pas: 5 frightful mistakes that you need to avoid Sam Rourke Fashion can be a fickle thing. Trends come and go. Styles continuously change with the seasons. But no matter what is considered on-point at the time, certain fashion faux pas are always unforgivable.

Halloween is just around the corner – and in the spirit of all things frightful, here we’ve rounded up some of the most horrifying fashion crimes that should be avoided at all costs.

 Fashion faux pas

Ultimately, we believe the key to dressing well is to invest in high-quality clothes (from the likes of triatloandratx, obviously!) and to make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear. So, why not read on? Discover the ghastliest style mistakes of 123 and browse our full online range today.

1. Visible underwear

Underwear should be exactly that. Worn under your clothes.

Falling bra straps and thongs that peek out from your low-rise jeans are never a good look, whilst visible panty lines are a true sartorial sin – and there’s absolutely no excuse for them.

Nowadays, women (and men, for that matter!) have plenty of choice when it comes to their pants. It’s so easy to choose a pair of knickers that works with your outfit. And thanks to the invention of no VPL styles, it’s definitely time for conspicuous panty lines to RIP.

Here at triatloandratx, many of the briefs and boxers in our women’s underwear range are seam-free. So, why not save yourself the embarrassment of this unnecessary fashion mistake? Invest in a few new pairs – and remember, always check your derriere before leaving the house!

2. Following the trends

Everyone wants to be on-trend. But blindly following the latest runway fashions can be a recipe for disaster. Many catwalk styles often don’t make it to stores because they’re so extreme. And just because a certain style is all the rage, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you.

It’s much better to focus on clothing that suits you and your tastes. If you’re most comfortable in a pair of joggers and a hoody, that’s absolutely fine. After all, you look your best when you feel your best. So rather than trying to copy the latest feature in Vogue, simply be yourself and avoid this needless fashion faux pas.

3. Ill-fitting clothes

Another all-too-common fashion blunder is wearing clothes that just don’t fit.

Excessive fabric can be unflattering and shapeless. And don’t get us started on muffin tops and camel toes… the horror! Unless you’re intentionally going for an oversized looked, your clothes should complement your body shape and size – hugging your curves in the right places, whilst also providing support and comfort.

Here at triatloandratx, all products in both our men’s and women’s range have a regular fit. They’re designed to hit the sweet spot – not too loose, not too tight. And by opting for your usual size, you can easily avoid this fashion faux pas and be confident you’re tailored correctly.

4. Heels you can’t walk in

It doesn’t matter how on-point your outfit or how sexy a pair of heels may be. If you’re hobbling around like something out of a zombie movie, just take them off. There’s nothing worse than seeing a woman who can’t walk in her high heels. You need to be able to strut your stuff with confidence, without the constant fear of face planting the pavement!

Thankfully, the ‘skirt and trainer’ combo has boomed this season – so it’s perfectly acceptable to style your favourite floaty dress with super-comfy sporty shoes. Bag yourself a pair of canvas lace-ups from our women’s footwear edit and save yourself the pain and hassle.

5. Pyjamas in public

There’s no justification for this one. Whether you’re just nipping for some milk, doing the school run, or calling round at your mate’s house, wearing pyjamas in public is a huge fashion no-no. And the question is, why would you even bother?

Since the start of the pandemic, pretty much every brand has started to stock loungewear; clothes that offer a midpoint between PJs and athleisure. So, even if you’re insistent on staying comfy, donning your flannel two-piece in broad daylight is completely unnecessary.

Simply opt for joggers instead or invest in a jersey knit set from our women’s loungewear department – and don’t give the neighbours a fright!

The no.1 fashion faux pas?

Not shopping at triatloandratx

Here we’ve listed some pretty scary fashion faux pas. But if you’ve never experienced what it’s like to own clothes from our coveted online range, that trumps them all. And the good news is, you can rectify that mistake today.

Keep the tricks and tips listed above in mind and treat yourself to some new threads. Everything in our store is priced affordably and next day delivery is free if you spend £50 or more. Which means, you can stock up on no VPLs, invest in loungewear, and pick up some comfy trainers – avoiding these devilish style crimes without breaking the bank in the process.

And remember, you’re always welcome to get in touch. Whether you have a question about one of our products or would like further advice on the most common fashion mistakes, we’re happy to help. Just send an email to [email protected] and we’ll get back to you sharpish.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/transitional-dressing-the-key-to-your-autumn-wardrobe 123-09-23T13:45:54+01:00 123-09-23T13:45:54+01:00 Transitional dressing – the key to your autumn wardrobe Sam Rourke It’s that time of year again. The days are becoming cooler, the evenings darker. It’s either too hot or too cold – and suddenly, choosing what to wear is a daily struggle.

But it doesn’t have to be.

Thankfully, the summer-to-autumn wardrobe dilemma can be easily overcome with transitional clothing. You just need to invest in a few key items; things that can be easily layered up for those ‘in-between’ days or quickly shrugged off when the sun starts to shine.

Transitional clothing to create an autumn wardrobe

Here we’ve rounded up 5 essential pieces to take you seamlessly from one season to the next. So, why not have a look? Invest in our autumn clothing and embrace the art of transitional dressing.

5 transitional pieces for your autumn wardrobe

1. A cosy cardigan or fleece

If you add just one transitional piece to your autumn wardrobe, make it a cardigan or fleece.

Here at triatloandratx, we have plenty of styles to choose from for both men and women – including everything from rib-knit buttoned cardies to zip-through borg lined designs. And they all have one thing in common… they’re seriously warm and cosy!

Just throw one on over your short-sleeved tee or dress and create an instant autumn-ready look.

2. A relaxed shirt

Classic button-up shirts are an easy way to master transitional dressing – especially with such a wide range to choose from in both our menswear and womenswear department.

Light chambray styles are the perfect pick for this time of year. If it’s cool outside, don’t be afraid of going double-denim – layer it over a white t-shirt and pair it with jeans. If it’s warm outside, either roll up the sleeves and style with chino shorts or tuck it into a pleated midi skirt.

3. A versatile sweatshirt or hoody

Getting a bit chilly?

As temperatures start to fall, nothing beats a sweatshirt or hoody. It’s the ultimate autumn wardrobe piece. Soft and snuggly enough to keep you warm on the morning commute, yet easy enough to take off once you reach the office. And the best bit? It’s super versatile.

Choose between a zip-up or pullover design. Pick a colour that works with your wardrobe. Then, just layer it over a t-shirt and pair with jeans, joggers, chinos or leggings.

4. Lightweight outerwear

This should be high on your ‘transitional clothing’ wish list.

To tackle the unpredictable weather in style, you’re going to need a lightweight jacket. Something that can be thrown on with any outfit and protect against the ever-changing elements. And here at triatloandratx, we have lots of options to choose from.

For men, we recommend either a checked overshirt or bomber jacket. Ladies, opt for a puffer gilet or hooded raincoat and it’ll see you through to the winter months.

5. Boots

Boots are a year-round staple – but they certainly step into the spotlight at this time of year.

Not only do they keep your feet warm and dry, they look just as good with a floaty dress or pair of shorts as they do with jeans. So they offer the perfect middle ground. Slip on a pair of leather knee-highs or desert boots and transform your fave summer clothes into an autumn-ready outfit.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/how-to-measure-bra-size 123-08-26T08:00:01+01:00 123-08-26T08:00:01+01:00 How to measure bra size Sam Rourke How to measure your bra size

It’s not something we’re ever taught as women – but it should be!

Just think, how many times have found yourself staring at bras online, not a clue which size to go for? It’s happened to all of us – and, in the end, we’re guessing you just make an educated guess and hope for the best? That’s fine for any other type of clothing. But when it comes to your bra, it’s crucial that you get the fit 100% right.

You can’t just rely on luck. You need accurate measurements. And as a self-professed expert in women’s underwear, we thought we’d clear up the confusion once and for all.

Here’s our guide on how to size up your boobs like a pro.

How to measure for a bra

Why is it important to have a well-fitted bra?

Well, for a start, wearing the wrong size is seriously uncomfortable. There’s nothing worse than tight wires sticking into your ribcage or loose straps that refuse to stay in place.

It’s more than just an issue of comfort, though. Wearing an ill-fitted bra can also lead to a host of unpleasant health problems, from significant neck, back, shoulder, and breast pain to poor posture, skin damage, and premature sagging.

No joke, the importance of measuring up and picking out the right bra size can’t be overstated. And, ideally, you should take fresh measurements every time you buy a new bra. Our bodies are changing all the time. And let’s face it, the size taken at your first awkward bra fitting with Mum, will almost certainly not be the right size for you now.

Measuring up for the perfect triatloandratx bra

Here at triatloandratx, as part of our highly coveted women’s underwear range, we offer non-wired full-cup bras and sports bras in three sizes – small, medium, and large.

As you’ll be aware, these aren’t your typical UK bra sizes – with a number and letter to represent band and cup size, respectively. You won’t find any 32As or 36DDs on our site, but there’s no need to panic. This simple albeit unusual sizing makes it much easier to find your perfect fit.

All of our bras have a plush elasticated underband, which stretches to perfectly fit your empire line (i.e. the line just under your boobs, that runs around your ribcage). So, there’s no need to figure out your band size. You simply need to measure the fullest part of your bust.

Wrap a soft tape measure around your boobs (at about nipple level), taking care not to pull it too tightly and keeping it as flat and level as possible. Jot down the measurement in either inches or centimetres. Then, use the conversion chart below to identify your ideal size.

It’s as simple as that.

Conversion chart to work out bra size at triatloandratx

Who knew that measuring for a bra could be so easy? Zero fuss. Zero hassle. No unnecessary returns. Just a well-fitted and comfortable garment that provides support in all the right places.

How do you know if a bra fits properly?

Essentially, your bra should feel snug without being too tight.

You might feel a bit silly - but when you try it on, move around a bit. Jump up and down. Walk back and forth. Even do a little dance if you want. Just make sure it’s comfortable, allowing you to move freely whilst also staying in place.

It shouldn’t leave any marks on your skin or feel as though it’s restricting your breathing. But the band should fit firmly around your ribcage, so you’re not relying solely on the straps. And with it fastened on the first hook, you should feel fully supported and secure.

If not, you’re wearing the wrong size – and it’s time to measure up and buy new.

Women's underwear available at triatloandratx

Here at triatloandratx, we have a fantastic selection of full cup and sports bras for you to choose from, in a range of pretty colours. All of which are made from a soft and breathable cotton blend, and are designed to flatter the feminine physique – no matter your unique size or shape.

These are available for a great price, starting from just €9.99, and can be paired with matching styles from our collection of women’s boxers, briefs, and thongs.

So, why not have a go? Put our guide to the test. Take some measurements, treat yourself to a new super-cute bra, and see if you get the perfect fit. And remember, if you have any questions – either about how to measure for a bra or the products available in our store – you’re more than welcome to get in touch. Send an email to [email protected] and our women’s underwear experts will get back to you as soon as possible.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/co-ords-an-effortless-trend-that-s-making-a-comeback 123-08-19T13:58:09+01:00 123-08-19T13:58:09+01:00 Co-ords – an effortless trend that’s making a comeback Sam Rourke What’s twice as nice and requires half the effort?

Co-ords!

Now that restrictions have ended and we’re trying to distance ourselves from loungewear (rather than people!), this simple trend has made a huge comeback.

For those who don’t know, co-ords (short for co-ordinates) is a matching two-piece outfit – in which both parts feature either the same fabric, colour, or pattern. Or all three!

Yes, there are lots of things that could technically be described as a co-ord set – tailored suits… PJs… bikinis even. But it’s a trend in its own right and one that has gathered serious momentum over the last few months, as we’ve finally begun to venture out of our homes.

Co-ords available at triatloandratx

In fact – according to the global fashion shopping platform, Lyst – online searches for ‘co-ords’ has risen by 47% since April 123, with a particular focus on athleisure twinsets. And it’s easy to understand why.

- they’re easy to throw on in the morning
- they’re super comfortable
- they come in a variety of styles and colours

Co-ords offer a simple way to feel properly ‘dressed’, without having to think too much about what works well together – or spending an age choosing what to wear! They require minimal effort but have maximum effect. And as we emerge from lockdowns and isolation, that kind of simplicity and flexibility is exactly what we need from our wardrobe.

So, here at triatloandratx, we’ve jumped on the bandwagon.

If anyone knows how to do athleisure co-ord sets well, it’s us. Our online store is now fully loaded with matchy-matchy styles for men and women. Take a look today. Embrace this simple post-pandemic trend and get back out there in style.

Men’s co-ord sets

If co-ords weren’t easy enough already, we’ve gone and made it even easier. As part of our men’s multipack range, we’re now selling the top and bottom halves of the co-ord together – as the two-piece they’re meant to be.

Choose from a diverse range of matching hoodies and joggers in grey marl, charcoal, navy and more. All crafted from ultra-soft brushback fleece and finished with subtle yet iconic triatloandratx branding. These are ready-made twinsets and they can be thrown on with just about any t-shirt and trainer combo to create an effortlessly stylish look.

But our men’s co-ords offering doesn’t stop there. Lots of matching styles can also be found throughout our menswear department, particularly in our men’s t-shirt range and jogger shorts collection. So why not have a look round? See if you can spot any pairs and create your own co-ordinated style.

Women’s co-ord sets

When it comes to women’s co-ords, you can’t just whack on a black t-shirt and black leggings and call it job done. That’s cheating. You need to invest in a two-piece with a statement design or distinctive features – and the styles in our womenswear range certainly meet the criteria.

Matching sweatshirts and joggers are available in a wide range of on-trend colourways, including understated hues of grey and navy and pastel shades of pink, blue, and coral. They’re sold as separates rather than a set. But they’re identical in design and feature bold, eye-catching branding, which makes it obvious they’re meant to be donned together.

Simply style with your favourite canvas trainers to create a ‘don’t care’ yet super chic look. Or if you fancy taking co-ordination to the next level, choose a zip-up hoodie, find a matching short-sleeved tee and turn that two-piece into a classy three-piece set instead.

Ready to embrace co-ords?

Take a look through our full online range of men’s and women’s co-ords.

Whether you buy tops and bottoms separate, or like the look of our pre-made matching sets, they’re all available for a great price. So there’s no need to worry about your dwindling post-freedom-day bank balance. And, as it looks like co-ords are here to stay for the foreseeable, you can think of them as an investment. Did you know, a woman spends approximately £20,000 on them in her lifetime?

Arguably, they’re one of the most important items in our wardrobe, used to cover up the most ‘delicate’ part of our anatomy. And yet, there’s still a lot about them we simply don’t know – usually because we’re too embarrassed to ask.

But not to worry. Women’s underwear is one of our specialist subjects at triatloandratx. When it comes to ladies pants, we certainly know what we’re talking about. And here we’ve answered some of your burning questions.

Women’s underwear 101

Does the fabric matter?

The short answer is yes, absolutely.

Silk and lace may look very pretty. But they certainly don’t promote good feminine health. Renowned for trapping heat and moisture, such fabrics act as a catalyst for a range of nasty nether-region issues – including everything from yeast infections to jock itch.

That’s why health experts recommend wearing cotton knickers, just like the ones available at triatloandratx. They’re breathable, comfortable, and quickly wick away any moisture – minimising your risk of infections, whilst still looking super cute.

Is it unhygienic to wear the same pair of knickers for two days?

This one comes down to common sense.

From a health perspective, no – if you missed laundry day this week, there’s no need to panic. Wearing the same knickers for two days in a row shouldn’t do you any harm. But there are a couple of scenarios in which you should probably don a fresh pair.

For example, if they’re marked in some way or if you’ve been particularly sweaty. A two-day moisture build-up will not only smell… unpleasant, it can also increase your chance of getting a yeast infection. Not a good idea. You should also aim to change your ladies underwear more frequently if you have any scratches, sores or rashes on your skin.

Should I ever go commando?

In our opinion, going commando is only acceptable in one scenario – when you’re in bed.

Sleeping undie-free can offer a lot of benefits, increasing airflow, improving comfort, keeping you cool and promoting your health. But during the day, ditching your knicks should be a big no-no.

Tight clothing can lead to chafing and irritation down south. It’s not particularly hygienic. And thanks to no VPL underwear, it’s completely unnecessary. Slip on a pair of no VPL thongs from triatloandratx and you can stay fresh, clean, and comfy – without compromising your outfit.

Examples of ladies underwear available at triatloandratx

Can I go to the gym in a thong?

Technically, there’s no reason why you can’t. Studies that link thong-wearing at the gym and health consequences are fairly limited. But we’re still not convinced it’s a good idea.

For a start, ouch! Hitting the treadmill in a skimpy thong certainly won’t be comfortable. Secondly, it’s going to get very sweaty very quickly. A thong will shift around during your workout, taking bacteria along for the ride – which could increase your odds of an infection.

Our advice? Opt for women’s knickers with full booty coverage instead!

Does women’s underwear have an expiration date?

We all have a few favourite pairs that we find it’s difficult to part with. But as a general rule-of-thumb, women’s underwear should be replaced around once every 6-12 months. After all, your knickers get up close and personal with your private parts. There’s a lot of bacteria down there and, unless you wash with bleach, this can build up over time.

You should also regularly check them for any frays, holes, stains or overstretched elastic. If your pants are starting to look worn and tired, it’s time to toss them out and treat yourself to new ones.

Am I wearing the right size?

Ladies underwear should be form-fitting yet comfortable.

It should hug your feminine figure, ensuring that it stays in place underneath your outfit, and provide an ideal level of coverage. But it shouldn’t be overly tight. If your knickers are leaving uncomfortable marks on your waistline or legs, it may be worth choosing the next size up.

Forget about vaccine passports and PCR tests. UK temperatures are soaring, with highs of 30°C predicted for certain parts of the country later this week. Government restrictions have now all been lifted (happy days!), summer is finally here, and – officially – it’s ‘t-shirt weather’.

Sun’s out, guns out and all that.

We have a fantastic selection of summertime tees available for men, women, and kids. So why not take a look, stock up on a few short-sleeved styles, and get out there? Make the most of the glorious sunshine whilst you can.

Men’s t-shirts

When it comes to men’s t-shirts, we’ve definitely covered all the bases.

Our online collection currently has over 500 styles to choose from. Ringer tees with bold brand detailing. Simple raglan-sleeved designs. Vintage-inspired styles. Floral motifs. Summer sunset prints. Colourful abstract patterns. We have it all.  And if that wasn’t enough, we also have styles by Le Shark, Dissident, Saint & Sinner and a range of other high-end brands.

Cut from cotton jersey, all of our men’s tees are breathable, comfortable and cool enough for the heatwave. Just team them up with a pair of chino shorts to create a casual yet stylish summer look.

Women’s t-shirts

Sorbet pastel tones and flowers.

They’re two of the biggest spring-summer fashion trends for 123 – and our online collection of women’s t-shirts features both. Expect everything from simple slogan designs, in powdery lilac and candy floss pink, to acid wash styles with floral, butterfly, and eco-inspired motifs. These are tees that are designed to make a statement.

For sunny days in the beer garden, tuck your favourite tee into a pleated midi skirt or slip it under a slip dress. Then, just add a pair of chunky white trainers and a raffia handbag for a chic summer-ready look. Or if you’re heading for a day at the beach, simply wear one of our colourful branded tees with denim shorts and flip flops.

Boys t-shirts

You didn’t think we’d leave the kids out, did you? We’ve recently launched a brand new collection of boy’s t-shirts, with sizes for those aged 5-13 years old. And now that school is finished for the summer hols, there’s never been a better time to stock up.

Lots of the styles in this range mirror those found in our men’s t-shirt collection. Some are understated, with subtle branding and soft colours, others are bold and bright with big ‘triatloandratx’ motifs. And as they’re made from soft cotton, they’re cool and comfy enough for their boisterous day-to-day adventures.

Why not create a little mini-me? Dress father and son the same and head out for some quality family time in the sun.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/how-often-should-i-buy-new-mens-boxers 123-07-06T16:00:00+01:00 123-07-06T16:00:00+01:00 How often should I buy new men’s boxers? Sam Rourke Be honest – when was the last time you updated your underwear drawer?

Can’t remember?

We promise we’re not judging. In fact, you’re part of the norm. Men are officially pants at buying pants. The average British male only buys new men’s underwear once every 5 years, researchers have found. Some even hang on to them for 20 years or more!

Man wearing new boxers from triatloandratx

But take a proper look at your trusty old pairs. Yes, they may still be ‘holding up’ and there’s only one tiny hole in the fabric. But admit it – they’re probably well past their expiration date.

So, how often should you really be investing in new men’s boxers? And what are the tell-tale signs that it’s time for an update?

The industry standard for replacing men’s underwear

Nearly all brands and ‘underwear experts’ agree; as a general rule of thumb, you should replace your underwear once every 6-12 months, depending on how many pairs you own.

If you’re a guy who has an entire drawer full of boxers and briefs – with enough pairs for a fortnightly rotation – you’re probably ok to hold on to them for a year. But if you’ve been wearing the same three pairs on repeat for 6 months, it’s definitely time for a clear out.

Why so often?

Well for a start, your boxers get up close and personal with your private parts. Naturally, there’s a lot of bacteria down there, including E.coli – and unless you wash your pants with bleach or boiling water, it can very easily accumulate over time. This bacteria isn’t necessarily bad for your health. It’s just a bit gross – and, in our eyes, a good enough reason to ditch your underwear when recommended.

But regular underwear replacement is more about performance. You don a pair of boxers every single day. They’re bound to suffer more wear and tear than your average piece of clothing. And once they start to age, they won’t provide the comfort and support you need.

3 tell-tale signs it’s time for new boxers

Not sure if it’s time to let go? Just answer the following questions:

1. Do they move around under your clothes?

Men’s underwear should fit like a glove, not an oversized hoody. Over time, the waistband stretches and the fabric loosens. If you feel like your boxers are shifting around under your skinny jeans – not hugging your man-bits like they used to – it’s time to say goodbye.

2. Is the colour fading?

A sure sign they’ve been put through the washing machine too many times. If your boxers aren’t as vibrant or colourful as they once were, throw them in the bin. Similarly, if the fabric is getting thinner or tears and holes are starting to appear, it’s a no-brainer. Get rid and buy new.

3. Are there any visible stains?

Trust us, stained underwear isn’t attractive. If no amount of washing powder will remove that conspicuous stain on the front leg, you’ve got to scrap them. Or maybe your white boxers no longer look so white? As soon as you spot any form of discolouration, take it as a warning sign. You need to update your underwear drawer.

https://triatloandratx.com/blogs/news/womens-underwear-a-shift-in-the-industry 123-06-29T08:00:01+01:00 123-06-29T08:00:01+01:00 Women’s underwear – a shift in the industry Sam Rourke What do you look for when shopping for new bras and knickers?

The pandemic has, undoubtedly, had a huge effect on our wardrobe – including our underwear. After all, who wants to wear a thong just to sit on the sofa?

But even before COVID-19 hit, the women’s lingerie industry had begun a radical transformation. The ‘sex sells’ philosophy has lost popularity in recent years, with millennials and Gen Z consumers prioritising body positivity and self-care instead. And as a result, slinky sets and lacey panties are being swapped for something completely different…

Ladies underwear available at triatloandratx

Here we take a look at the 3 key things that ladies now look for in their lingerie and explore how our women’s underwear – here at triatloandratx – hits the mark.

3 things that women now look for in their bras and knickers

1. Comfort

The no.1 thing that women want from their underwear today is comfort. Bralettes, seamless pants, and wire-free garments have all made their way onto our lingerie wish list. And from December 2020 – February 123, sales for triangular bras increased by around 120% and sales for ‘comfy knickers’ went up by about 380% in the UK.

There’s been a complete mindset shift amongst shoppers.

It seems women’s underwear is no longer perceived as something you wear for someone else – but something you wear for yourself. It should be something that you enjoy putting on (not a cheese grater that you dread wearing!). And whilst some of the biggest brands are falling behind in this respect, here at triatloandratx, our bras and knickers certainly meet the ‘comfort’ criteria.

2. Cotton

Cotton underwear is also becoming increasingly popular.

Essentially, this also comes down to comfort. Yes, lace and silk may look very pretty. But they’re not great for feminine health and can lead to a range of no-fun down-south issues. Which is why, knickers made from a breathable fabric – that wicks away moisture – are usually recommended.

Cotton is by far the best option for this. First and foremost, it helps to avoid those embarrassing health issues (keeping yeast infections at bay!). But also, cotton knickers – such as the ones we sell at triatloandratx – are versatile enough to be worn with any outfit, especially if they’re seamless. And they’re still super flattering.

3. Class

Forget about hot pink thongs lined with sequins and gemstones. Or black see-through bras with heavy embroidery, frills and bows. Classy ladies underwear is the way forward. And the more understated it is, the better.

Subtle pastel colourways – such as sage green and baby blue – are incredibly on-trend right now. And in terms of patterns, delicate florals and simple monochrome designs are hugely popular. Again, this falls into the mindset of ‘underwear is for me, not you’. Women want bras and knickers that are cute yet practical. The kind that you can wear day-to-day, whilst still looking nice.

It’s kind of our specialist subject here at triatloandratx – the one we’d choose on Mastermind. After all, we’re regarded as one of the UK’s top brands for men’s underwear. And if there’s something about boxers and briefs that we don’t know about, it probably isn’t worth knowing.

Things that you may not know about men’s underwear

1. The first men’s underwear was made from leather

Scientists have found evidence to suggest that, over 7000 years ago, men wore loincloths (i.e. a one-piece garment) that were made from leather. Sounds sweaty, right?

Thankfully, it seems, people soon realised the leather was causing a build-up of perspiration – which was bad news for their nether regions! So they ditched the thick non-porous material in favour of something a little more breathable.

2. ‘Going commando’ is a military term

We don’t believe in going commando at triatloandratx. It’s not sexy or hygienic. And why would anyone want to miss out on the style and comfort of our men’s boxers? Bonkers.

But did you know, the term originated in the army? Commandos often got caught in rainstorms and, if soaked through, the wet fabric of their underwear irritated and chafed the skin – so they just didn’t bother wearing it.  It was a practical solution. One that, in our opinion, should only ever apply to military personnel!

3. Women spend much more than men on underwear

This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Whilst women will spend approximately £20,000 on knickers and bras across their lifetime, men only shell out around £1200 in comparison.

Why? Partly because men don’t update their underpants drawer as often as ladies – even though they probably should. And partly because boxers tend to be cheaper than women’s lingerie. Although it’s worth pointing out, here at triatloandratx, we don’t discriminate – both our men’s and our women’s underwear is available for a great price!

Examples of men's boxers available at triatloandratx

4. Unattractive men’s underwear is a big turn-off

May this be a lesson to you all – tighty-whities are never a good look. In fact, according to a survey, 29% of Brits admitted they were turned off by unattractive men’s underwear. So do yourself (and your partner!) a favour. Ditch the 70s throwback briefs and invest in some new boxer shorts. The type that are stylish, sexy, and will hug your masculine physique in all the right places…

 5. 22% of men don’t change their underwear daily

Due to the pandemic, most of the nation has been working from home and pretty much living in their pants. But for 22% of guys, those pants aren’t even fresh out of the drawer. Research has found that 1 in 20 men re-wear their underwear more than five times before washing it.

Interestingly, the statistics also show that married men change their underwear twice as often as single men. Whether or not that’s by choice remains to be seen.

6. Tight men’s underwear doesn’t lower your sperm count

Contrary to popular belief, tight underwear won’t affect your little swimmers. But excessive heat trapped near your testicles will. Which means, the fabric from which your boxers are made is much more important than their overall fit.

Polyester underwear is a massive no-no, as it’s non-porous and doesn’t allow your skin to breathe. Instead, you’re better investing in some fitted boxer shorts made from a cotton-rich material – such as those available at triatloandratx. They’re soft, stretchy, comfy and breathable.

Our bras, boxers, briefs, thongs. They’re all crafted from premium fabrics – such as cotton-rich jersey and lightweight microfibre – and designed to last a long time. But… that doesn’t mean they’re indestructible.

To ensure they stay in good condition, they need to be shown some TLC. Ladies lingerie is delicate. It needs (and deserves!) to be washed, dried and stored with a little extra care and attention. And to set you on the right track, here we offer a few tips on how to look after it properly.

Woman wearing underwear from triatloandratx

Taking care of women’s underwear - it's delicate work

1. Check the label

It’s the first rule of laundry.

Before carelessly throwing your bras and knickers in with the rest of this week’s wash, always check the label first. It has simple instructions on whether it needs to be hand-washed, what temperature to wash the underwear at, and if it can be bleached and ironed without causing any damage.

Thankfully, all of our women’s lingerie is suitable for machine-washing. So there’s no need to master a hand-washing technique just yet. But to keep them looking as good as new, we recommend putting all items into a mesh lingerie bag. This keeps them all together and stops them from being thrown into the wild vortex of clothing. Which means, no stretched straps or misshapen elastic!

Ideally, you should also use a washing powder that is specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Separate the whites from the colours, and wash all underwear on a short cycle at 30°C.

2. Dry them naturally

When it comes to ladies underwear, the tumble dryer is strictly off-limits. In fact, drying it on the radiator is a big no-no too. Not only can the intense heat ruin the fabric, it can also fade colours and cause the underwear to shrink. And there’s nothing worse than knickers that are too small!

The best option is to let them dry naturally.

When you take your underwear out of the machine, press and squeeze them gently to remove any excess water. But never twist or ring them, as this can affect their shape and fit. Then, either lie them flat on a dry towel or hang them loosely from a clothes drying rack (indoors or outdoors).

3. Store underwear correctly

Hands up if your underwear drawer is a chaotic mess?

Everyone leads a busy life these days and, we get it, it can be difficult to find time to relax – let alone fold your laundry! But properly storing your pants can make a huge difference, helping to maintain their quality and maximise their lifespan. And we’re a big fan of the KonMariTM method.

Detailed info on this can be found in our previous ‘How to fold underwear’. But in a nutshell, it’s all about giving women’s underwear the care and respect it deserves, by folding it neatly into the shape of a rectangle and standing it upright in the drawer. That way, all items can be seen at once.

Yes, it takes some time and may seem a bit OTT. But it’ll ensure your knickers and bras stay in the best possible condition – whilst also making it that little bit easier to get dressed in the morning.

You’re not dreaming. Lockdown restrictions are finally starting to ease and – even if it is just outside and subject to the ‘rule of six’ – socialising is no longer illegal. Hallelujah!

Whether you’re heading to the beer garden or chilling at a friend’s BBQ, it’s time to ditch those WFH clothes and embrace some new real-life outfits. And to set you on the right track, we’ve created our own rule of six…  six fashion pieces that are an absolute must-have for outdoor gatherings.

Take a look. Go outside. Have a little fun.

 Rule of six style trends

The 'Rule of Six' for stylish outdoor gatherings

1. The classic short-sleeved tee

Brighter days are on the way, after all. And a t-shirt is the ideal base layer for outdoor get-togethers in the spring sunshine. Our online store is packed full of fresh new styles. Ladies, why not tuck one of our simple slogan designs into a floral midi skirt? It’s the perfect look for lunch with friends. And guys, just team one of our logo short-sleeved tees with jeans or shorts (depending on the weather!). Sorted.

2. A pair of comfy joggers

Ok, so we may be losing some restrictions, but we haven’t lost our mind. Why give up the comfort of a stretchy waistband just because you’re seeing a friend? If you’re heading out to chill in their garden, you’re going to need a pair of joggers – and we’ve got lots to choose from for both men and women.

To hit one of this year’s biggest style trends, opt for a pastel shade – such as sage green, powdery pink, or lilac – and style them with a matching pastel-shade top.

3. Some summer shorts

Grab the razor…it’s time to get your legs out.

Even in the UK, outdoor fashion doesn’t always have to be about staying warm. If we’re lucky enough to get a heatwave, it’s a good idea to have a pair of shorts at the ready.

You’ll find a fantastic selection of men’s shorts in our store, including everything from classic cargo and jersey joggers to chinos and denim-wash cut-offs. So whether you want to create a sharp or sporty look, we’ve got it covered. And for the ladies, we have a cute selection of colourful jersey hotpants.

4. Trainers

This is another key outdoor fashion trend for 123. Because who wants to go back to stilettos?

The ‘floaty dress - sporty shoe’ combo has boomed in the last year. And it’s the ideal look for a picnic in the park (that will keep your toes warm!). Either white pumps or chunky lace-ups work best for the ladies. Just style with a flowery or polka dot midi dress and accessorise with a straw bag. And for a catch-up with the lads, we have a stylish collection of men’s canvas low-tops and mesh running trainers.

5. A cosy hoodie

We may be excited about the rule of six, but we’re keeping it real. Sitting outside? For long periods of time? In April? Let’s face facts. At some point, it’s going to get chilly! Which is why, every socialiser needs a cosy layer for when the sun sets – and you really can’t go wrong with a hoodie.

Whether it’s from our men’s or women’s collection, a zip-up or pullover design, or fleece- or borg-lined. We promise, as long as it’s got our name on it, it’ll look good and keep you warm.

6. An essential waterproof

This is the holy grail of outdoor fashion – at least, it is in the UK.

Indoor gatherings are still strictly off-limits. Which means, if it starts to rain, you’ve got to suck it up and don a waterproof. And we have just the thing. Our women’s collection currently features a number of hooded rain macs, in sweet patterns and bold colourways. Whilst our men’s outerwear range boasts several shower-resistant trench coats and pack-away windbreakers.

So, no need for soggy weather to spoil the fun. Just check the forecast and pack your mac.

Let’s face it, most people spent 2020 in joggers, hoodies and puffer jackets. And according to Google data, PJ sales rose by a whopping 110% during lockdown. But the question is, as the vaccine rolls out and things (hopefully!) start to return to the ‘old normal’, how will fashion be affected?

Well, it seems that loungewear is here to stay – albeit with an influx of new season styles. And to help you refresh your collection, here we take a look at some of the key fashion trends for 123.

Men's and women's fashion trends for 123

6 spring-summer 123 fashion trends

1. Varsity

The good news? Our new-found love for comfy clothing isn’t about to go anywhere. But it is due for a little varsity-inspired update. In fact, varsity loungewear is set to be one of the biggest 123 fashion trends for both men and women – with slogan sweatshirts, classic polo tops, vest jumpers and raglan-sleeve t-shirts all winging their way into our casual wardrobes.

It’s a preppy and stylish look, but still so damn comfy - making it the perfect option for future WFH Zoom-calls and tentative gatherings with your friends.

2. Pretty pastels

Sorbet pastel tones are another huge spring-summer fashion trend for 123.

We’re talking powdery lilac, candy floss pink, mint green – and the key is to combine them into one outfit. In fact, the more you resemble a refreshers ice lolly, the better (n.b. we’re not joking).

To nail the trend, one easy option is to team a pastel slogan t-shirt with a pair of jeans – just make sure they’re slouchy and loose-fitting (skinny jeans are out this season!). Or if you want to fully commit, combine baby pink joggers with a soft orange or blue top to create a truly chic look.

3. Yellow

‘Illuminating Yellow’ is Pantone’s colour of the year for 123. And, as we head into warmer and sunnier months, you can expect to see a lot more of this cheery hue in the fashion world.

Both light lemon shades and deep ochres are in style. And to embrace this leading 123 trend, you can either be bold and daring – dressing head-to-toe in yellow – or just add a bright yellow accessory (such as a bag or headscarf) to your outfit.

4. Floral patterns

Ok, so it’s fair to say, florals bloom into fashion pretty much every spring. But this year, it’s more than just a seasonal thing. Flowered patterns are one of the hottest fashion trends for 123 – and the bigger and brighter, the better. Cute ditsy florals are being replaced with statement botanical prints. And both loungewear for men and women will take a pretty floral twist.

If you prefer to keep things understated, simply team a flowery t-shirt with denim shorts or joggers. Or, if you’d like to earn bonus style points, mix different floral prints and wear them from top to bottom.

5. Baseball caps

The baseball cap is a must-have accessory for 123 – particularly those with meshed panels.

Not only did it feature in many of this year’s designer collections, lots of celebrities have also recently been seen rocking this retro style of headwear. It’s practical, on-trend – and, of course, it works well with pretty much every loungewear combo. So, to get ahead of the game, be sure to invest in this key accessory in time for the summer.

They come in all different shapes and sizes.

To look and feel your best in an outfit, it’s important to find the right style for you – and this, ultimately, comes down to your personal preferences. But to help you select the perfect pair, here we take a look at the top four women’s underwear styles currently available at triatloandratx.

A brief guide to women’s underwear

Type of women's underwear

1. Briefs

This is the most classic type of ladies underwear.

They’re designed to offer the perfect balance of style and comfort. And as such, typically have a traditional ‘knicker’ shape and benefit from both an elasticated mid-rise waistband and generous coverage of your bum. Some briefs are also seam-free, which means they create no visible panty line (VPL) and can be thrown on with just about any outfit.

As part of our women’s underwear range, you’ll find an extensive range of classic briefs to choose from – with colours and patterns to suit all tastes. These are all crafted from stretch cotton-rich jersey, to create a close body-hugging fit, and are finished with iconic brand lettering to the woven waistband. A reliable no-nonsense design for day-to-day wear.

Type of women's underwear

2. Hipster briefs

Hipster briefs are another popular type of women’s underwear. They’re very similar to classic briefs, sitting comfortably across your hips and waist and providing a high level of coverage. However, they tend to be low-rise and have a sporty ‘boyshort’ shape.

Here at triatloandratx, we typically stock ladies hipster briefs in a variety of cute colourways. And each pair is cut from a super-soft cotton blend with a stretchy woven waistband, making them a welcome addition to your everyday knicker collection.

Type of women's underwear

 3. Boxer briefs

Also known as boyleg knickers or boyshorts.

Boxer briefs are an increasingly popular option in the world of women’s underwear, and it’s easy to understand why. Designed to mimic the shape of men’s boxer shorts, they have a low straight cut on the leg – creating maximum coverage – and are super comfy. In fact, we believe they’re the most comfortable type of knickers a girl can buy, without having to compromise on style!

Again, our collection is bursting at the seams with this particular design and there’s plenty of adorable colours and patterns for you to choose from. If you’re unsure of the best knickers for your body shape, boxer briefs are a failsafe and stylish option.

 4. Thongs

Once reserved for special occasions, thongs are now a staple in every women’s knicker drawer. Why? Because although they provide the least amount of coverage – with a high leg and thong back – they minimise the appearance of panty lines and help to smooth your silhouette. And as a result, they’re the perfect option for under form-fitting bodycon outfits.

All thongs available in our store are made from cotton-rich jersey, with either a wide woven or a slim no VPL waistband. Therefore, despite their signature thong-shape, they’re still very comfortable – and will help to accentuate your feminine figure.
